Though I think blogging is an excellent – and possibly the easiest – way to get started making money online, I will say that it is not for everyone. Some people just do not have the desire to create a site that must be updated regularly.
Others want a quicker way to earn money, and will look into paid methods. Still others may not want to connect with customers on a personal level, preferring instead to stay behind a mailing list, ebook, or other method of IM.
Before you decide to start a blog, ask yourself the following questions – they will help you decide if blogging is a good business model for you.
Do you enjoy conversing about a certain topic? If you can write multiple articles on the same subject, you may have it in your to begin blogging. Most blogs are niche-centric. This means they focus solely on one topic. For example, if you enjoy fly fishing, that is all you would chat about on your blog. It’s not helpful to someone looking for fly fishing tutorials to venture to a site where there are posts on fishing, cooking, and soccer.
Can you type well? Blogging doesn’t require you to be an excellent or fast typist. However, you do want to be able to get the point across through your posts. It’s important to have a basic grasp on the English language – and grammar – if you want to run a successful blog. Also, the blog will need to be updated on a regular basis, so if you get frustrated with typing easily, it may not be for you.
Can you see your blog as a long term business? Yes, a simple website should be viewed as something that will build to make you an online income for months, maybe even years, down the road. It will not happen overnight. The process of blogging takes time – you have to create lots of content and then drive eyes to the posts. Many bloggers find that it takes 2-3 months to really start seeing the kind of traffic they want from their blog.
In the mean time, just focus on creating high-quality content…so that once the visitors begin to arrive, they will be happy with what they see.
